President's Message:

As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on all the things that have taken place in 2014. This year has been one of the most interesting years for me personally with the Pianos on the Street project.  Through the project I had the opportunity to witness public pianos being performed on by all walks of life- from children to seniors.  I witnessed many incredible things take place through this project (including a marriage proposal that occurred in front of our piano at Lonsdale Quay Market, as well as a senior citizen and a young boy who improvised a duet together and enjoyed themselves so much that they formed a duo and continue to perform together). But what surprised me most is just how relevant piano still is today.  As I sat in front of numerous piano locations it was astonishing to see how many people activated the piano.  It left me feeling amazed at how much piano still means to people in this day and age.  We are already in the midst of making preparations for Pianos on the Street 2015 which is going to be even BIGGER than it was last year. We want to involve passionate music lovers such as yourselves in this project so if you would like to be a volunteer next year, please let us know.

Teacher of the Month: Ildiko Skeldon

Ildiko's musical career has spanned over 30 years and her studio has produced countless award-winning students. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia and is a senior examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music. According to Ildiko, she regards her students as her 'music family':

"They are a very important part of my life.  My teaching philosophy is to ensure that each and every student achieves his or her own personal best. It is my job to bring that out of each student using a variety of different methods and incentives. Every Student, young or old, has some level of musical ability and I am thrilled to be able to develop that in them."

Upcoming Events: PTF member Oriana White releases new album

Our friend and Piano Teachers Federation member, Oriana White, and her piano duo Vino & Forte have just released a brand new album entitled Serenade which will be available online in the New Year.  According to Oriana:

"[It] is essentially a collection of our favourite repertoire pieces, encompassing the sounds of classical piano and flamenco guitar. We are both excited to release "Serenade" as we are hoping that Vino & Forte will continue to offer a unique live experience for all our fans as well as relaxing music for our listeners to sit back, close their eyes and enjoy."

Italian Container Sale at Pacey's Pianos

Pacey's Pianos is currently hosting a MASSIVE piano sale featuring the beautiful brand, Shulze-Pollman. These instruments are hand-built in Italy and are heirloom-quality pieces.  They retail at $30, 000, but they're on SALE for
$15, 000. For more information, please visit: http://vancouverpianos.com/portfolio-item/schulze-pollmann-sale/.

OPINION: Which charities should Pacey's Pianos donate money to this Christmas?

This Christmas Pacey's Pianos is doing things a little differently. Instead of sending out hundreds of Christmas cards we have decided to take the money we normally spend on cards and donate it to several deserving charities based in the Lower Mainland. We want to know which charities YOU think deserve to be on the list.  Submit your suggestions to info@pianoteachersfederation.org. The list of recipient charities will be announced later this week!
